2019 - Founded
Alimetry was founded by Prof. Greg O'Grady and Dr. Armen Gharibans, built on a decade of groundbreaking gastric research from the University of Auckland.
2021 - New Zealand Launch
The Gastric Alimetry system officially launched in New Zealand. By early 2022, the system was already in use at three major hospitals across the country.
2022 - FDA Clearance
Gastric Alimetry received FDA clearance, for the Body Surface Gastric Mapping system approving it for clinical use in the United States.
2023 - US Controlled Market Release
Alimetry expanded into the US market, partnering with leading academic medical centres to bring objective gastric diagnostics into clinical practice.
2024 - CPT Code
Gastric Alimetry was assigned CPT III code 0868T, opening the reimbursement pathway for clinical adoption across the US.
Today
Alimetry is now available in New Zealand, Australia, the UK and the US. With 50+ peer-reviewed publications and counting, Alimetry continues to build the evidence base that is defining the field of gastric electrophysiology.

Dr O'Grady is a Professor of Surgery and Alimetry co-founder based in Auckland, New Zealand. He has cross-disciplinary expertise in complex GI disorders, bioengineering, translational physiology and clinical trials. He has published >280 papers and holds >50 patents in medical technologies.
Dr Gharibans is a world-leading gastrointestinal bioengineering expert and co-founder of Alimetry. He holds a PhD from UC San Diego, where he won the top PhD Prize for non-invasive gut diagnostics. His expertise spans signal processing, machine learning, and medical device design.
Karen O'Regan, CBO at Alimetry, brings 20+ years in senior commercial and operational roles across global companies, tech startups and scaleups. Working across the UK, Europe, US, and Asia, her career spans Healthcare, Technology, Data Analytics, and Retail.
Dr. Yaara Yarmut is an international medical device regulatory expert with deep experience in regulatory affairs and ISO13485 compliance. A veterinarian by training, she spent over a decade in clinical research, quality and regulatory affairs for device startups building quality systems from scratch
Kate Miller is a senior professional with 17+ years of medical device experience across the full product and operational lifecycle — from development and manufacturing through to supply chain. She holds a First Class Honours degree in Mechanical Engineering and a postgraduate Diploma in Business.
Craig Shannon, CTO at Alimetry, brings 20+ years of product and manufacturing experience across medical, aviation, consumer devices, housing and automation - from startups to multinationals. An Auckland University MechEng Hons graduate, Craig helped develop the original Alimetry hardware.
Christie Dunwoodie is CFO at Alimetry, bringing 20+ years of accounting and financial leadership, including 10 years in tech startups and scaleups. A University of Auckland BCom graduate, her background includes an 11 years at UBS (London, Zürich, NZ) leading global reporting teams.
Dr Calder is a biomedical engineer specialising in gastric electrophysiology, signal processing, and machine learning. His University of Auckland PhD laid the foundations of Alimetry's analytics platform, with deep expertise in algorithms and clinical evidence.
Christopher Andrews is a clinical professor of gastroenterology at the University of Calgary and one of Canada’s foremost neurogastroenterology/motility specialists. As CMO, he brings 20+ years' experience in health research, medical device development, and clinical practice strategy.
